The KMGU-2 was Soviet, and is now a Russian sub-ammunition container that may not quite accurately be classified as a cluster bomb. The principle of operation of this weapon is based on releasing smaller projectiles (sub-ammunition!) After reaching the target. The principle of operation is similar to the German MW-1 or the British JP233. KMGU-2 is able to use subammunition intended both to incapacitate manpower and enemy armored vehicles. The original version of this container (KGMU) was able to carry up to 96 AO-2.5RT missiles (with HE warhead) and the same number of PTM-1 missiles intended for destroying tanks. KGMU could also carry up to 156 PFM-1S missiles. The KMGU-2 container can be carried by many Soviet or Russian airplanes and helicopters, including MiG-23, MiG-27, Su-22, Su-24 or Ka-50.
